In Finland, a small company called Ensitieto is using artificial intelligence to make health information more accessible — especially for older people and non-Finnish speakers.
Partnering with HealthHub Finland EDIH, they created a cloud-based chatbot that pulls from over 1,000 pages of trusted sources and responds in Finnish or English, depending on the user’s language.
The chatbot gives concise, clear answers to health questions, includes references to original sources for transparency, and suggests further learning materials. It has reduced the burden of repetitive inquiries, made it easier for users to get reliable information, and allowed Ensitieto to automate much of its content delivery.
Thanks to blended funding through EDIH, the pilot was able to move forward with less risk. The project shows how AI can democratize access to health education, make public health communication more inclusive, and support organizations in scaling their services.
